McOndo Revisited: The Making of a Generation Defining Anthology in the Latin American Literature-World
Autor Thomas Nulley-Valdésen Limba Engleză Hardback – 27 iul 2023
By drawing on as well as developing a range of theoretical and methodological approaches from World Literature scholarship, McOndo Revisited reconsiders the literary, political, and publishing ecologies which gave rise to this anthology. This rich context, as well as numerous author interviews, informs a holistic analysis of its controversial prologue, short stories, authors, and reception.
As the first comprehensive monograph dedicated to the "McOndo" anthology, McOndo Revisited rectifies numerous misreadings and reclaims its primarily artistic intentions. Its analysis zooms back and forth from the macro to the micro perspective, analyzing the artistic trajectories of the authors involved through a complex evaluation of the Latin American literature-world as well as individual authors' habitus.
Considered by many a commercial and critical failure, McOndo Revisited sheds light on this controversial anthology and demonstrates its role in historicizing the Latin American Literature-World and indeed becoming a generation defining anthology, even if through a most paradoxical fashion.

Recenzii
This is a brilliant contribution to the sociology of literature in Latin America and an exceptionally well researched and argued book. Using a world literature approach, with a critical emphasis on Bourdieu and Casanova, it carefully explores the place of the McOndo anthology, edited by Alberto Fuguet and Sergio Gómez and published in Chile in 1996, in the constitution of a generation of Latin American writers and their relations with other literary actors in the literary field. This in depth case-study allows the author to significantly contribute to our understanding of the relations between the canon and the Latin American literary field or space. The interviews with all the writers and other actors involved are themselves, finally, a great contribution to the field.
McOndo Revisited is a major contribution to the study of one of the critical moments of Latin American literature's ongoing struggle to be a part of world literature. The concept of "Latin American Literature-World" developed in these pages will reorient many discussions in the years to come.
McOndo Revisited constitutes an important addition to the scholarship on the McOndo anthology and the subsequent McOndo generation . Nulley-Valdés deftly balances the need to explore broad literary trends while at the same time recognizing the individual's unique authorial voice. As such, McOndo Revisted is a text that will provide a valuable resource to any scholar of these authors and this literary moment.
