Notă biografică
Volkmar Essers (geb. 1944) studierte Kunstgeschichte, Archäologie und Germanistik in Bonn, München und Berlin. Im Jahre 1972 promovierte er mit einer Arbeit über den Bildhauer Johann Friedrich Drake. Er war lange Jahre als Kustos an der Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen tätig und hat Ausstellungen u.a. zu Paul Klee, Pablo Picasso, Max Ernst und Jackson Pollock organisiert. Essers ist Verfasser zahlreicher Aufsätze und Bücher zur Kunst des 19. und 20. Jahrhunderts.
