Maritime Structures: Analysis, Design, and Construction

Autor Srinivasan Chandrasekaran, Gaurav Srivastava, Amit Prashant
en Limba Engleză Hardback – 15 ian 2027
Maritime Structures: Analysis, Design, and Construction examines the intersection of structural form, analysis, and design with recent updates on these perspectives. Written for a wide spectrum of readers, the book presents fundamental learning materials for graduate students, researchers, and practicing professionals. It emphasizes three main principles: basics, applications, and recent advancements, and discusses how they influence the design, construction, and maintenance of maritime structures. It blends physical analogy with engineering design and encourages interdisciplinary thinking.
  • Includes end-of-chapter problems and a solutions manual for adopting instructors.
  • Promotes a shift from traditional math-intensive instruction to simple, classroom-style explanations for maritime structures.
  • Presents a unique combination of theory, application, and updated design philosophy.

Notă biografică

Srinivasan Chandrasekaran is currently the Head, Dept. of Maritime Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar. He also holds the position of Professor with Higher Academic Grade in the Department of Ocean Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Madras. He is a Visiting Professor in the Dept of Structural Engineering, University of Naples Federico II, Italy and Visiting Professor in the Faculty of International Maritime Studies, Kasetsart University, Sriracha campus, Thailand . He holds the prestigious Fellowship conferred by Ministry of Italian University Research (MiUR Fellow). He commands a rich experience in teaching, research, and industrial consultancy of about 31 years. He has supervised many sponsored research projects and offshore consultancy assignments, both in India and abroad. His active research areas include dynamic analysis and design of offshore structures, Structural health monitoring of ocean structures, Risk and Reliability, Fire resistant design of structures, use of Functionally Graded Materials (FGM) in marine risers, and Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) management in process industries. He has authored about 210 research papers in peer-reviewed international journals and refereed conferences organized by professional societies worldwide. He has authored twenty-six textbooks, which various publishers of international repute publish. He is an active member of several professional bodies and societies, both in India and abroad. He has also conducted about thirty five distance-education programs consisting of about sixty video lectures in each of them on various engineering subjects for the National Program on Technology-Enhanced Learning (NPTEL), Govt. of India. Through his impressive academic and research records with a Google Scholar h-index of 30 and i-10 index of 90, he is placed in the top 2% of world-leading scientists. Chandrasekaran has been recognized for his excellence, receiving the Best Reviewer award from the Korean Society of Steel Structures and the Best Teacher Award from IIT Madras in 2022. He is a vibrant speaker and delivered many keynote addresses at international conferences, workshops, and seminars organized in India and abroad. He holds life membership of many National and International professional societies.
Gaurav Srivastava is the Professor and Head of the Dept. Civil Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar. He is also honored with one of the prestigious Dr. Vilas Majumdhar Chair Professor of IIT Gandhinagar. His main research interests lie in the areas of structural fire engineering, and mechanics of materials for innovative geometric forms of structures. Particularly, efficient analysis of structures under fire enables more comprehensive performance-based design procedures and assessment of building facade systems in fire conditions. He is also interested in developing analytical and algorithmic tools for solving structural dynamics and uncertainty quantification problems. He is a member of many professional societies and also active structural consultant. More details can be seen at https://iitgn.ac.in/faculty/civil/fac-gaurav.
Amit Prashant is a Professor of Civil Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar. His main research interests lie in the areas of constitutive modeling for granular materials, numerical modeling of geotechnical structures, earthquake geotechnical engineering, and applications of geosynthetics in sub-structures and slope stabilization. He is a member of many professional societies and also an active geotechnical consultant. More details can be seen at https://iitgn.ac.in/faculty/civil/fac-amit.
