Manette keeps her promise to her grandmother while she sits in her farmhouse in North Dakota. Her friends Frea and Paul are with her, and a friend of Paul's who is an editor doing research on farms in the United States of America. It is the day before Christmas and the rain, ice pellets, and sleet are falling. Manette loves the weather and they take turns telling Christmas ghost stories.
