A whale. A town. One mission: save a life.
Malena is a young, curious, and playful whale who explores the ocean with the joy of someone who believes the world is endless. But one day, after venturing into unfamiliar waters, she becomes trapped in the chains of a catamaran. What begins as play suddenly turns into danger.
The news spreads through the town, and one by one, its people come together to try to save her. They attempt different strategies, but none succeed. Time is running out, and finally they must make a risky decision: they must beach her on the sand in order to set her free.
Will they be able to return Malena safely to the ocean?
Inspired by a true story, Malena, the Whale is a Spanish picture book about community, empathy, and caring for animals and their environment.
Written in accessible, poetic language and entirely hand-illustrated using collage techniques, this story invites children and families to reflect on nature, marine conservation, and the power of a community working together.
