Jane, the usual serving maid, was ill, leaving only Danielle to replace her for Mrs Ashley's dinner party and ball tonight. It would be a welcome change for her to see all the beautiful gowns and jewels adorning the ladies in attendance. There would be the latest gossip whispered around the dinner table.
