In preparing that edition, the object of the Compiler was to produce a small volume, in an inexpensive form. With this view, he endeavoured to compress the most interesting evcnts in the history of Madagascar during the last forty-two years into the narrowest space compatible with perspicuity. The same design required the use of a smaller type and a closer page than could have bcen desired. These disadvantages disappear in the present volume............
