After I had read Macbeth the first time, I tried to understand why he didn't go against the encouragements of his wife. I thought about it. There was present in him the dream and desire to be king. Lady Macbeth was his wife. A wife can influence her husband based on what he thinks is the wisdom of her counsel. The power behind the throne is not a man...it is a woman...But what type of woman should a man have...to ensure he is not corrupted by his position or does not become corrupted by his position....? He must have an ethical wife. He must have a spiritual wife. He must have a wife who does not want him to sell his soul for money, position, power.
