My mother and I were 2 women from different eras. Born in the beginning of last century in South Italy, my mother lived in a world of poverty and wars, where fighting for her own life and those of her family was all that mattered. After World War I and World War II, Italy, as well as the rest of Europe and many other countries, changed the way of life in the wake of new discoveries and values. My mother remained anchored to her philosophy of life, and never deviating from her standards. I was born in the fifties also in Italy. I grew up aware of the fast changing of the world around me, always in the search of new values and new things for a better way of life. These differences took us apart for most of our lives. However, both my mother and I ultimately wanted from each other the same thing - to be accepted for the persons we were. Will we ever achieve our inner desire?
