Long Shadows: V M Knox

Newly promoted Lieutenant Colonel Clement Wisdom is tasked with leading a group of high ranking American Officers into enemy held North Africa via submarine for a secret rendezvous with a Vichy French General. But when the Vichy French Police raid the meeting, Clement must extricate his charges before either capture or death. With limited time and worsening weather extracting his important charges becomes a life and death struggle. In the days following the secret rendezvous, Clement learns of several seemingly unconnected events that the submarine encounters with the enemy.

Now ordered to Shetland to uncover a Nazi spy, Clement finds too many coincidences, to both his past and the recent mission to North Africa. But his nemesis is a consummate spy and with links to men Clement's fought and killed in the past, the chase becomes personal, and the memory of long dead enemies and friends cast long shadows over Clement's survival and that of his team.
