Logic Synthesis for Multi-Core Counter-Based Control Units: Structural Decomposition in Logic Design

Autor Alexander Barkalov, Larysa Titarenko, Kamil Mielcarek, Małgorzata Mazurkiewicz
en Limba Engleză Hardback – noi 2026
This book is devoted to logic synthesis of FPGA-based circuits of counter-based control units. It focuses on counter-based control units and finite state machines (FSMs). It introduces new architectures for compositional microprogram control units (CMCUs) and FSMs that optimize hardware resources, performance, and power consumption.
Logic Synthesis for Multi-Core Counter-Based Control Units: Structural Decomposition in Logic Design offers a groundbreaking approach to designing FPGA-based control units by introducing methods that optimize hardware efficiency, reduce power consumption, and improve performance. It highlights the advantages of structural decomposition over traditional functional decomposition, enabling the creation of circuits with fewer logic levels and more regular interconnections. Readers will benefit from detailed explanations of state assignment methods, such as twofold, extended, and composite, which are adapted to the unique requirements of counter-based control units. Additionally, the book explores the transition from single-core to multi-core architectures, demonstrating how this shift enhances the quality and efficiency of control unit circuits. With numerous practical examples and step-by-step synthesis methods, this book equips readers with the tools to design cutting-edge control units that outperform conventional solutions.
This book is tailored for undergraduate and postgraduate students, researchers, and industry professionals specializing in computer science, electronics, and telecommunications. It is particularly relevant for those studying or working in areas such as reconfigurable systems, digital systems, computer architecture, embedded systems, and computer-aided design.
