Autor Gibji Nimasow
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 31 ian 2012
The Akas, one of the major tribe of Arunachal Pradesh (India)largely depends on forest resources for livelihood. Agriculture, hunting, fishing and food gathering are important activities for their sustenance. Their Indigenous Knowledge System (IKS) allows them to interact with surrounding forests in differential ways. Their belief systems along with concept of sacred groves play significant role in conservation of plants and animals. The forests are the source of vegetables, fruits, barks, edible leaves, wood, bamboo, cane and thatches, agricultural implements, bows and arrows, handles, cloths, hair oil, musical instruments, ornaments and ethnomedicines. However, the advent of scientific knowledge has caused deep impacts on their linkages with forest. The book reveals that some important species of plants are on stake of extinction and certain wild animals are endangered. The existing judicial laws against illegal exploitation are hardly implemented. There is urgent need of formulation of sustainable forest management plan for the area. The customary laws and knowledge in relation to ecosystem may facilitate a revolution in preserving and protecting our forest resources.
