Life Beneath the Waves

Catalina Velasco is a Chilean marine biologist currently living in the Mexican Caribbean, where she dives every day as an underwater photographer and scuba diving instructor. She is also a National Geographic Explorer and the cofounder of Fundación Mar y Ciencia (Sea and Science Foundation), an organization dedicated to bringing the ocean closer to people through environmental education and storytelling. Driven by the belief that conservation begins with connection, Catalina uses her voice and images to inspire people of all ages to care for the ocean.
Guided by curiosity and a love for creating, Angela Salerno discovered a personal and liberating way to express herself through illustration. She studied graphic design at the University of Buenos Aires, and in 2021, published her first book as both author and illustrator with Editorial Amanuta. Born in Argentina and a traveler at heart, she has lived in several countries and now calls Valencia, Spain, home, where she works as a freelance illustrator and graphic designer.
Lawrence Schimel writes in both Spanish and English and has published over 130 books as author or anthologist in a wide range of genres, including fiction, poetry, graphic novels and children's literature. His children's books include Early One Morning, Bedtime, Not Playtime! and Lucky Me, which was chosen for IBBY'S Outstanding Books for Young People with Disabilities and also won a Crystal Kite Award from the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. Lawrence is also a prolific literary translator of over 200 books, including Newborns: How Baby Animals Come into the World, RO-BO and Cristina Plays, which received a starred review from Publishers Weekly. His translations have won a Mildred L. Batchelder Honor and an Américas Award Honor (twice), among other distinctions. He lives in Madrid.
