Recenzii

Palmer (Univ. of Oklahoma) has compiled a thorough guide to the quintessential Renaissance man, Leonardo da Vinci. The chronology and introduction provide readers with a solid biographical foundation. Entries cover not only Leonardo's artistic career but also his engineering, scientific, and other contributions, with entries such as "bobbin winder" and "ideal city" providing a glimpse into the remarkable breadth of his interests. Palmer includes entries on all of Leonardo's known works, including disputed and controversial items such as the recently revealed Salvator Mundi. Small black-and-white illustrations are also provided. Patrons and friends make their appearance here as well, as do critics-both contemporaneous and those who have contributed to Leonardo studies in the centuries since his death. A thorough bibliography rounds out the guide, which provides a readable and informative starting point for those who want authoritative information on Leonardo and his life.
