Reflecting on what was once a game of integrity and sportsmanship, star quarterback Adam McDonough sees today's college football as a minor league version of the pros, complete with scandal and luxury box seats, as corporations and even Uncle Sam are looking for a big payday off the backs of amateur players.
Routine preparation for a big game leads Adam to uncover a project known as "Leather Compass," in which scientists have been working with the government and a major media company to develop an individual talented enough to increase ratings and consumer spending through the use of genetic alterations. With the sport he has loved since childhood under the threat of being taken over by pure greed, Adam, his journalist girlfriend, and others at their college campus set out to expose a conspiracy of epic proportions and bring fair play back to the game.
