Obie, a seventy year old free spirit, returns to New York to visit his socialite daughter Olivia. He announces his intention to marry a woman 35 years his junior, and is met with furious opposition by his daughter who claims he would make her a laughing stock among her set.

Set in Olivia's lush Manhattan apartment, Olivia's fury is aided by her socialite friend, Freda van Ecklund, while encouraged by Olivia's husband Richard, and thwarted by Olivia's temporary hire of an alcoholic maid.

The story unfolds through witty dialogue, escalating conflicts, and ultimately, the exposure of long-held secrets.
