SOME LAWYERS DON'T KNOW WHEN TO QUIT. NOT EVEN DEATH CAN KEEP JAKE LASSITER OUT OF THE COURTROOM.
Rookie attorney Rodrigo Pittman faces the biggest case of his young career: overturn the murder conviction of a possibly innocent man by proving that his trial lawyer bungled the defense. The problem? That lawyer was Rodrigo's godfather, mentor, and idol. Jake Lassiter. Seven years dead.
Winning could launch Rodrigo's career. It could also destroy the legacy of the man who inspired him to become a lawyer.
Then Jake shows up.
Whether he's a ghost, a hallucination, or something in between, the legendary defense lawyer refuses to go quietly into the hereafter. Soon he's at Rodrigo's side, dispensing trial strategy, wisecracks, and unwanted dating advice as Rodrigo begins digging into a case that refuses to stay buried.
The deeper Rodrigo goes, the worse it gets. To win, he must do more than prove Jake made mistakes. He has to show those mistakes may have sent an innocent man to prison. That means reopening an old murder, confronting evidence Jake may have mishandled, and putting the reputation of the man Rodrigo loved on trial.
But the dead are not the only ones keeping secrets.
With the clock running down and loyalties shifting, Rodrigo must decide how far he is willing to go for the truth, even if the truth costs him the hero he thought he knew.
Lassiter's Ghost is a mystery, a courtroom thriller, and a story about family, redemption, loyalty, and the ties that even death can't sever. Blending sharp legal suspense with humor and heart, Paul Levine brings Jake Lassiter back for one more case, and gives a new generation of lawyer the impossible job of proving that sometimes the hardest person to cross-examine is the one you still love.
