Charlotte Jones has spent years perfecting the balance between motherhood and murder. Now she's teaching her daughter to do the same.
Sophie wanted this.
The assignments. The travel. The money. The particular satisfaction that comes from being very good at something most people would rather not discuss over dinner.
So Charlotte is teaching her everything she knows.
How to follow a mark.
How to get close.
How to kill cleanly.
How to come home afterward and act like nothing happened.
It's going reasonably well.
Until Sophie lets someone live.
For Charlotte, mistakes are occupational hazards. Sentiment is considerably harder to fix.
And Sophie isn't Charlotte's only complication.
A new assignment is beginning to blur lines Charlotte has always kept carefully separated. Old secrets are resurfacing. Someone is paying too much attention. And the younger daughter Charlotte deliberately kept away from the family business is showing a disturbing amount of natural talent.
Apparently, murder may run in the family.
Now Charlotte has to manage her targets, her daughters, and the increasingly inconvenient consequences of teaching your children to think for themselves.
Work-life balance was easier when Charlotte was the only killer in the house.
