This engaging small series tells the story of an artist or artistic movement in an accessible and entertaining way, revealing everything you always wanted to know about them. Superb illustrations, documentary photographs, quick explanations, and numerous quotations paint a vivid picture of the people behind the art. Käthe Kollwitz (1867-1945) - an artist of international renown - addressed war, poverty, and death, but also love and security, in her drawings, prints, and sculptures like no other. As a student immersed in Munich's vibrant bohemian scene, she achieved her breakthrough in Berlin with her first cycle of prints. Two world wars and personal tragedies shaped her work. To this day, she is regarded as Germany's best-known female artist.
