Interface is an ecumenical and interdisciplinary journal dealing with issues of social, cultural and scientific concern. that are God's ...' (Luke 20:24). This verse, also quoted in Mathew and Mark, is often cited as a reason for Christians to abstain from political action - but we know that Jesus was not about separating the realm of God from the world of God's creation. If we desire to give to God what is God's, then we must ensure that all that we do as part of our earthly pilgrimage points to the justice and righteousness that we see in the life of Jesus. how do we live when the talk is constantly of the 'war on terror', and what justifies going to war? The theme for this edition of the journal's focus on 'just war' is grounded in the reality of the war against Afghanistan and the invasion of Iraq. While these invasions were described by some as a reasonable - and justifiable - response to the violent attacks in New York and Washington on September 11th 2001, others constantly argued that a legitimate response to those acts was to seek and bring to account those responsible - not to initiate a broad-based attack on specific countries described by some as being responsible, or potentially responsible, for actual or possible terrorism. lives of only those living in both Afghanistan and Iraq. But because these invasions are justified by the 'war on terror', the human rights - and even the lives - of all people are under threat. Whether or not the particular wars were 'just' or not, the debate is no longer about specific incidents but an ideology to which we will all either adhere, or speak out against.
