In 1855 Miss Marion Bradwell describes herself as ridiculously tall and plain of face. She sadly admits that prospective husbands have not beaten a path to her door. Charles, Marquis de Montfort writes that he has always been embarrassed by his extreme height and the reflection he sees in his looking glass. Balls and other society functions have a source of anguish for them both. However, at her last ball of the season Marion glances across the room and sees the man of her dreams. Charles sees a vision of elegance. They dance, they fall in love, but all does not run smoothly for Charles was promised to another by an arranged marriage.
