The moment has arrived.
When an ancient Seer needs an excuse to remain in town while watching over the little newborn slave who shares his gift, he becomes involved in the project to bring the first steamboat to the Mississippi River.
That boat, the New Orleans, launches from Pittsburgh in October 1811, destined for Natchez and then New Orleans.
But the mysterious comet overhead seems to be an evil omen, and with other strange signs and portents, many predict the steamboat is doomed. The boat and its crew face unexpected perils and catastrophes, but also human drama and a newfound romance.
Meanwhile in Natchez, Gregor and his companions find troubles of their own. His hidden guardian angel helps him navigate the challenges, but he cannot predict the future. With the arrival of new family members, and the discovery of a forbidden secret love, the town is rocked in more ways than one.
