Notă biografică
ODETTE ELLIOTT has been writing stories ever since she was ten years old. When her youngest child started school, her grandmother asked, "So when are you going to send off all your stories and write some more?" This was the push that she needed.
Odette's dream came true when her picture book, Under Sammy's Bed, was published, followed by Sammy Goes Flying. Both books appeared on the BBC's TV programme Playbus and have been shown around the world. Two other 'Sammy' books followed. Sammy's Christmas Workshop, published in 1992 is still being borrowed in libraries. My Big Brother JJ published in 2009 was used in SATS tests in 2019.
The 'Sammy' books were inspired by Odette's youngest child, who always pretended that he could keep up with his older brother and sisters. He was adopted by Odette and her husband Donald when he was six years old, first joining the family aged four. A description of the first occasion they saw him is described in Tangled Roots - True life stories about Mixed Race Britain, Edited by Dr Katy Massey 2015.
Abigay's Farm was published by SilverWood Books in 2021. Candy Gourlay, Carnegie Shortlisted author of Tall Story called the book "A warm embrace of a story filled with family love amidst the grit and charm of a farm setting".
Josette's Secret is fiction, but was inspired by the bravery of her great-aunt in France during the Second World War, as the reader will see in the Afterword and Obituary Notice.
Odette enjoys writing, travelling - especially in the Scottish Highlands - walking in the countryside, attending her Local Church and going to her Keep Fit class. Also having days out in London, visiting parks and art galleries with good friends.
