Notă biografică

Gretchen is the eldest of four children. She had six years to be the only child. Then her mother contracted Polio, and little did she know it was the beginning of her generous life of care giving. Soon after her mother's tenuous recovery, her sister Karen was born, then later, two brothers, Zed and Karl. Gretchen fell into the role of oldest sister, mother's helper, and practically the vice president of the family when her Father was at work. Because the family moved frequently, she attended many school districts in several states. When the family finally settled in 1963, Gretchen had been to at least nine different schools, and was just about to enter high school. That's when she met Jim. They quickly became inseparable, and married shortly after high school. Although the marriage seemed sudden because her parents gave them an ultimatum, it was inevitable. They were devoted to each other and shared a love that is not often seen. They never had children, but were everybody's favorite Aunt and Uncle, and were often called upon to be Godparents by their many friends. They never separated until Jim's death in February 2008.
