Autor Chitradeep Chakraborty
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 5 iul 2026
Jamtara is synonymous with cybercrime. For over 15 years, there is hardly a police force in India that has not traced its investigations back to this small pocket of Jharkhand. The reason is simple-fraudulent calls originating from here have targeted unsuspecting citizens across the country. Armed with just two weapons-fear and greed-these cyber fraudsters quietly break into the lives of countless people every year. No bullets are fired, no blood is shed, yet a devastating form of white-collar crime unfolds in silence. What makes this obscure town a source of nationwide fear? In search of answers, an investigative journalist went undercover, concealing his identity to enter an unfamiliar and perilous world. Blending in with cybercriminals-many with little formal education yet commanding fortunes worth crores-he unearthed a hidden network operating beyond the reach of public knowledge. ¿ Inside India's Cybercrime Capital Discover how a small town in Jharkhand became one of the most notorious hubs of cyber fraud, earning a reputation that strikes fear across the country. ¿ An Undercover Investigation Follow an investigative journalist's dangerous journey into a secretive world, where gaining trust meant stepping into the shadows of organized cybercrime. ¿ The Psychology of Fraud Explore how cybercriminals exploit two powerful human emotions, fear and greed, to deceive victims and steal millions without ever leaving a trace. ¿ The Hidden Economy of Scams Uncover the astonishing wealth generated by digital fraud and meet the unlikely masterminds who built criminal empires with little formal education. ¿ A True Story of Crime in the Digital Age This gripping account reveals how technology has transformed traditional crime, creating invisible threats that can reach anyone, anywhere. ¿ Essential Reading for Every Internet User Gain a deeper understanding of the tactics, networks and methods behind online scams, and learn why awareness is the first line of defence.
