It's Not Raining is a children's story about what happens when we want something to be true so badly that we start ignoring the clues telling us otherwise.
Bunny wakes up excited to play outside in his brand-new shoes. His mom warns him that rain is coming, and dark clouds are already gathering-but Bunny is sure it will be fine. He wants to play ball, so that is what he chooses to believe.
When the storm arrives, Bunny's shoes are soaked, his ball is muddy, and he discovers that his friends were better prepared because they paid attention to the same clues he ignored. Later, Bunny misses another opportunity because he acts too late. With help from his friends and his mom, he begins to understand an important lesson: wanting something to be true does not make it true-and once we understand what is real, we can make better choices about what to do next.
Designed for both children and the adults reading with them, It's Not Raining includes age-appropriate reflection questions that help families talk about evidence, emotions, consequences, planning ahead, and motivated reasoning. Questions are written at different levels for younger and older children, making the story useful across a wide age range.
The book concludes with a Thinking Toolbox that gives parents simple prompts they can use to continue the conversation beyond the story: What clues do we have? What do we know? And what do we simply want to be true?
A thoughtful story about recognizing reality, thinking ahead, and learning to make choices based on what is true-not just what we hope is true.
