The city of Istanbul is Turkey's largest and most famous city with a population of 19 million people. It was one of the three European Capitals of Culture in 2010. No longer the country's capital, it remains Turkey's cultural and financial centre. Istanbul straddles Asia and Europe and is located on both sides of Bosphorus River.
