MIKE CRONIN is Senior Research Fellow in History at De Montfort University, Leicester. He was the author of The Blueshirts and Irish Politics, Sport and Nationalism in Ireland: Gaelic Games, Soccer and Identity, and editor of The Failure of British Fascism: the Far Right and the Fight for Political Recognition.
JOHN M. REGAN is a Research Fellow at Merton College, Oxford. He was formerly the Irish Government Senior Scholar at Hertford College, Oxford and a holder of a British Academy post-doctoral research fellowship also at Wolfson College. His Counter-revolution and Settlement in Independent Ireland, 1921-36 is to be published in 1999.
