Iain Banks (1954–2013) a fost un autor scoțian de o versatilitate rară, publicând beletristică sub numele de Iain Banks și literatură de anticipație ca Iain M. Banks. După succesul fulminant cu „The Wasp Factory” în 1984, s-a dedicat scrisului, lansând în 1987 Consider Phlebas, primul volum din influenta serie Culture.
