Jesse Wilder was a survivor. He'd lived through the horrors of the Civil War and the crushing blow of his wife's murder. When he drifted up to Tucson in the Arizona Territory, he was exhausted and looking only for some peace. But instead, he found one more test of his survival skills. Mrs. Susan Lattimore had heard of Jesse's war record and she was convinced that he was the only man who could rescue her young son from the Apaches who killed the boy's uncle and abducted him from a stagecoach. It nearly broke Jesse's heart to tell her how impossible it would be to even find the boy, let alone rescue him, but he had to do it. Then he ran into a former Mexican prisoner who was raised by Apaches, and a slim hope began to form. But would a slim hope be enough to rescue the boy?
