"A marvelous book. ... Purely as a travelogue, it stands alongside the best ever." -Dr. Thomas J. Hopkins, The Hindu Religious Tradition
"[A] transcendent travelogue that offers insight into an uncommon religious experience." - Kirkus Reviews
India in a Mind's Eye is a deeply engaging account of a journey through India by a foreigner familiar with the terrain. As a longtime student of Indian culture and practitioner of Bhakti-yoga, Steven Gelberg had rare access to people, places, scenes and situations unavailable to the casual traveler, and describes it all with a penetrating eye, a philosophic turn of mind and a healthy sense of the surreal. More than a kaleidoscopic view of the strange and the sublime, he provides rare insight into the heart and soul of a land that has intrigued, confounded and transformed generations of travelers and seekers alike.
