This book presents radical theological responses to these impossible times. The ecological, political, religious and existential challenges appear overwhelming. We have learnt to speak of ‘wicked problems’, ‘pluaracrises’ and ‘permacrises’. These terms join up the dots between occurrences such as species loss, mass migration, territorial wars, mental distress and the rise of a new fascism. Theology must now acknowledge the depths of the challenges we face. The task is not only to comprehend events in terms of the divine economy but, as Elaine Graham’s work emphasises, to embrace practices of hope in the face of seemingly impossible futures.
