Author / Illustrator — as retold and illustrated by Lisa Maria Burgess
Lisa Maria Burgess hand stitches textile art to illustrate her bilingual books for children. While her first language is English, she speaks Spanish and French with fluency. Lisa currently divides her time between the United States and Bénin, grew up in México, and has lived around the world as spouse to a United Nations staff. She holds a doctorate in English from the University of Pennsylvania, and is married with children. One of Lisa’s books, Playing with Osito | Jugando con Baby Bear, (illustrated by Susan L. Roth, bilingual English and Spanish) won the New Mexico-Arizona Book Co-op award for best Children’s Bilingual in 2018. In 2026, her SnowPal Soccer | Les copains de neige jouent au foot was illustrated with her handstitched art.
Co-Author — Charis Wilson
Charis Wilson lives in Tucson, Arizona with her family and her dog named Oreo. She recently completed Project Search at the University of Arizona and is working in food services in Tucson. In June 2026, Charis had the opportunity to represent Arizona in swimming at the Special Olympics Nationals in Minnesota! Charis has two older brothers and was born in Zambia, where her parents met as missionaries. Her American dad was a pilot and her English mum was a nurse. She moved to Tucson when she was just turning 13 years old. Charis enjoys telling a story that makes people laugh.

Héctor Cisneros Vázquez is a poet from Mexico City. He has been a grantee of the Fulbright program of the United States of America, and is a World Duathlon Championships medalist.
