The Housekeeper's Book

During the mid-nineteeth century Frances Green was one of Rhode Island's most famous writers. Known predominantly for her reform writings, which addressed the causes of temperance, labor, suffrage, abolition, and spiritualism, this remarkable woman is virtually unremembered today. Like her contemporary Catherine Beecher, Green's work also ventured into the domestic realm with the publication of her 1837 work, The Housekeeper's Book. Addressed to the particular needs of the American housewife, this volume is a comprehensive and useful collection of household hints and recipes which allow for the economical maintenance of a family home.
