This is the story of Thana, short for Thanadeltth'er, a D nesųlı̨ne girl. In 1713, Cree warriors devastate her camp. They kill many and take hostages, among which Thana and her friend Ashanti. The Cree are hostile to the D nesųlı̨ne tribe, whom they suspect to be trading with the Hudson Bay Company, on which they hold exclusive rights. Thanadeltth'er's life comes alive through the 1714-1717 records written by James Knight for the Hudson Bay Company (HBC) post at York Factory (also known as Fort York). These records refer to her as "Slave Woman."
