There is power in Jesus' name. I had been taught this truth at Church, heard about it in the hymns that we sang, and had even seen some lists that had a few different names that Jesus was known by, but it wasn't until I was doing my daily Bible reading and came across a certain passage that I really started to wonder if there was something more. My epiphany came one day when I was reading from the Book of John. While I was reading through the first chapter, I came across John 1:51, which says, "And he saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see Heaven open and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man." Though I had read this passage many times, this time something different stood out to me. Genesis 28:12 immediately came to mind, where Jacob had a vision and saw this exact same thing. I realized the only difference between the two passages was point of view. In Jacob's vision he saw angels ascending and descending on the ladder, but in Jesus' telling of the same event, He was the ladder. It was in that moment that the wheels in my head started turning. As if I were talking to someone sitting right across from me, I said, "This is amazing! How many times have I read through the Bible and missed other instances like this? Where else can I see Jesus in the Bible?'I then began to pray and ask God to show me more passages that talked about Jesus. A couple of days later I got my answer. I felt God telling me to go back and read the Bible more slowly; however, this time I was to be looking for Jesus in every verse of every chapter of every Book. He assured me that when I did, I would see that Jesus is everywhere throughout the Bible. Every chance I could get I was reading the Bible and looking for Jesus. I started out looking for Him by name, but I quickly realized there were also times when He could be seen in word pictures. What an amazing and exciting journey this was going to be! I have spent the last 15 years looking for the names and word pictures of Jesus, and guess what...I haven't regretted a moment of it! Could I have used those 15 years to do something else with my life? Absolutely.But I am glad that I didn't!Through this journey, not only have I grown to know Jesus better, but I have also developed a deeper respect and appreciation for Who He is.
