Hidden Gem has been written in honour of the staff of an Oncology unit within a General Hospital in the National Health Service (N.H.S.) in the United Kingdom (U.K.) It consists of an in-patient's view which has concentrated on trying to record the day-to-day minutiae of what was going on around the author whilst most of the time lying or sitting-up in his bed. He has tried to keep an objective type of journal, simply sticking to what he could see although inevitably his own daily schedules, personal thoughts, feelings and sense of humour has kept on coming through.
