In World War I, there were 120 men who received the Medal of Honor, the highest award for bravery in the United States military. Each of those men met the criteria for receiving the award by going "above and beyond the call of duty." Some of those men even gave the ultimate sacrifice of their own lives in order to save others. Some of those heroic deeds were over in an instant, while others were stretched out over many hours or even days.
