Recenzii
Jérémie Gallon's reexamination of Kissinger's life and personality provides vital lessons for twenty-first century Europe
At a time when geopolitics has become scary again, Jérémie's take on Henry Kissinger is essential reading'
Jérémie Gallon's KIssinger is in essence a letter to Europe. Gallon wants Europe to rediscover foreign policy realism and power, 'devoid of self-illusion'. His portrait of Kissinger as the intellectual man of action reveals historic European roots, but Gallon recognises that this older image must to adapted to the Europe of today. At a moment when Europe's long holiday from history is coming to a sharp close, Gallon's book summons statesmen of the past to rally new leaders who combine strategy with the diplomatic arts.
Takes a fresh approach to one of the most controversial figures in modern diplomacy. Structured around unexpected themes - from Kissinger's sense of humor to his sense of style - the book paints a nuanced picture that looks beyond moral judgment or mythmaking
Refreshingly, the book resists the European habit of blaming the current state of world affairs on American alone. On the contrary, it is a plea for Europe to get a grip on foreign policy and to learn from the Kissingerian style - and indeed to relearn the history of European diplomacy that Kissinger so well understood.
Fascinating book. Gallon's Kissinger is one that you do not know
This short volume, translated from the French by Roland Glasser, is really two books. The longer is a gallop through Kissinger's remarkable career. The shorter is a meditation on his relationship with the continent of his birth and how his legacy might be used to rejuvenate Europe's strategic position.
Gallon supplies exclusive revelations from his meeting with Kissinger 10 days after Russia's invasion of Ukraine and has said himself that Kissinger's life and actions "have much to teach us as to how we can build the new European realpolitik we so desperately need".
