Hemangiomas and Vascular Malformations

Recenzii

“This is a comprehensive clinical atlas of allcongenital hemangiomas and vascular malformations, with particular emphasis ondefinition and classification, diagnosis, and advanced treatments. The book isintended primarily for general physicians, surgeons - general, plastic, orthopedic, pediatric, head and neck -- radiologists and neuroradiologists, pathologists, laser specialists, and basic scientists who are interested or manage patientswith vascular malformations.” (Dustin Y. Yoon, Doody’s Book Reviews, November, 2015)

Notă biografică

Raul Mattassi is director of the Centre for Vascular Malformations “Stefan Belov” at the Clinical Institute Humanitas “Mater Domini” of Castellanza, Varese, near Milan, Italy. He is involved in vascular malformations since over 30 years, founding the Italian Multidisciplinary Center for these diseases in 1992. He published two textbooks about vascular malformations and several chapters of books and articles in leading journals
After his graduation from Heidelberg and Kiel medical schools, Prof. Dirk A. Loose specialized in Surgery and then in Vascular Surgery  at Düsseldorf University, becoming later Professor at the same faculty. He was then appointed Head of the Department for Angiology and Vascular Surgery of the Surgical Hospital Dr. Guth, Hamburg. In 1989 he there co-founded the Center for Circulatory Disturbances and Vascular Defects, and one year later the Center for Vascular Medicine (MVZ), which includes all interdisciplinary departments dealing with vascular diseases, and which he then later left in 2006 after year of outstanding work and commitment. In 2002 Prof. Loose took part in the  Foundation of the “European School for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Vascular Malformations” in the Facharztklinik Hamburg. Textul de pe ultima copertă

Since the first edition of this book was published, much new knowledge has been gained on hemangiomas and vascular malformations. This revised and updated second edition, written by worldwide leaders in the field, fully reflects this progress.
Important improvements in the treatment of hemangiomas are reviewed, including the use of beta-blockers and other medical therapies as well as advances in interventional treatments and the treatment of hemangiomas in specific locations.
Vascular malformations are being investigated with increasing frequency all over the world and new challenges are emerging regarding both diagnosis and treatment. This edition considers the current role of the full range of diagnostic imaging techniques –magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography, nuclear medicine techniques, angiography, and phlebography. The various treatment options, including laser, interventional radiological, and surgical techniques, are then presented in detail.
A further individual section is devoted to the study and treatment of lymphatic malformations and dysplasias, and a series of chapters also focus on problems in the treatment of malformations in particular locations, including the thorax and viscera.
This book, in atlas format, is exceptional in providing clinically relevant information on the diagnosis and treatment of both hemangiomas and vascular malformations. It will appeal to all professionals who encounter these conditions in their daily clinical practice.
