A virulent disease wipes out large swathes of humanity; Garrett Primross somehow survived though he lost the woman he loved and her baby. The Healers are intrigued by his miraculous survival and send Artemisia, a second level healer and coincidentally Garrett's childhood sweetheart, to monitor him. The two are forced to work together and attempt to work past their differences. They soon realise that their childhood amour has been ignited into an adult passion that cannot be denied.
