Descriere
Harpswell's uniquely scattered geography has shaped its destiny. With a long peninsula known as the Neck and more than 30 islands of varying sizes, the town has from the start been a fishing and farming community. This fascinating visual history brings to life the changes in Harpswell since the 1870s including images of the early, harsh life on the coast and later postcard views of a family resort area.
Notă biografică
Joyce K. Bibber, a Harpswell native, has gathered much of this unique collection from the cherished albums and archives of local families. A professor of history at the University of Southern Maine, she is also active with Greater Portland Landmarks, and has been a member of the Maine Historic Preservation Commission. Her love for the area and knowledge of its history are evident in this volume that is sure to be enjoyed by all readers--whether they dwell in Harpswell yearround, for the summer, or just at heart.
