Curwood (1878-1927) was an American action-adventure novelist and conservationalist. An avid hunter in his youth, he later became an advocate of environmentalism and his attitude to wildlife is best expressed in a quote from his novel The Grizzly King - "the greatest thrill is not to kill but to let live." In this work first published in 1921 he reflects on how he came to perceive God's presence in Nature.
