- Set in 1948, George’s Run provides insights into the historical contributions of Black Canadians to the Second World War and North American labour movements.
- Born in Barbados and immigrated to Canada, Cecil Foster has been a reporter for various newspapers and was editor of Contrast, Canada's first Black-oriented newspaper.
- Foster previously researched and wrote about Black rail porters for the Globe and Mail bestseller They Call Me George, “a riveting, tour de force written by an award winning, master story-teller who entertains while he teaches” (The Caribbean Camera), which was named by CBC Books as one of six must-read non-fiction books for Black History Month and nominated for the Toronto Book Award.
