Intends to give an advanced overview of flexoelectricity, a linear physical coupling between mechanical (orientational) deformations and electric polarization, which is specific to systems with orientational order, such as liquid crystals. It addresses a common macroscopic (continuum) description the microscopic theory of flexoelectricity.
