Edith Nesbit (1958 - 1924) was an English poet and author known for her children's books. She is credited with writing over 60 books for children. Nesbit was co-founder of the Fabian Society, which later became the Labour Party. Nesbit wrote about the real world not a fantasyland. She invented the children's adventure story. Five English children find a remarkable sand fairy who grants all wishes. Unfortunately, getting their wishes fails to bring satisfaction. The 12 books in this series are suggested for children in upper Elementary school.

She was also a political activist and co-founded the Fabian Society, which had a significant influence on the Labour Party and British politics in general.
