His literary career started with poetry, and he gained fame with his book "Digte og Sange" in 1870. He was born on December 8, 1832, in Kvikne, Norway. Using his writings to support cultural identity and independence, Bjørnson actively participated in the 19th-century Norwegian nationalist movement. He was an important figure in determining the political climate of Norway as a member of the parliament. Though Bjørnson has written other novels, such as "Arne" and "The Fisher Maiden," his plays, especially "Peer Gynt," are still considered classics in literature worldwide.
