If you had the chance to relive your past, would you?

John Laredo is a twenty-eight-year-old recently unemployed married man who takes to romanticizing his past and considers what it means for his future. On the day after his birthday, he sets out to take one more trip to yesteryear, reconnecting with friends and foes alike, but as he does, he finds out that it's not how he remembers it at all and that he may have made a grave mistake in doing so. In a day full of misadventure and mishaps touring the offbeat back alleys, bars, brick apartment buildings, and railroad tracks in Woodhaven, Queens, the reality sets in that what he had at home is really all that matters, but can he return in time before it's too late?

In addition to his literary work, Figliola has had a long career as a writer and reporter, bringing stories to audiences on both local and national platforms. His fiction and poetry are rooted in the people, neighborhoods, and the unmistakable rhythms of New York City.

Recenzii

“Mike Figliola is an expert spinner of New York tales. Fine is Flying Without You is authentic, dead-on-the-nose accurate, and dripping with rich details of life in the outer borough’s netherworld. Intimate, fearless, and honest, Figliola shies away from nothing. Buy the ticket and enjoy the ride!”
Fine Is Flying Without You is raw, honest, and true. The kind of storytelling you can’t fake. The streets breathe, the people bleed, and you feel the pulse of it long after you close the book.”
“In his sophomore effort, Fine Is Flying Without You, Mike Figliola once again takes you to the streets of Queens, New York with a documentarian’s eye and a poet’s heart to the page. Every line carries the weight of memory, struggle, and hope. Figliola’s work reminds us why storytelling matters. Highly recommended!”
“Fearless writing. No filler. Figliola’s work hits every line like a deal that can’t be ignored.”
“Mike Figliola is to Queens what Philip Roth is to North Jersey: a native son who can magically bring you to a specific place you’ve never been, and somehow make you feel like you’re actually from there. Fine is Flying Without You thrums with the rhythm, beauty, urgency of life in Queens. It’s a fully immersive sensory and emotional experience – propulsively narrated, funny as hell, and achingly poignant.”
“The streets and neighborhoods of New York City hold nights of endless possibilities: transcendence and trouble, decadence or danger, and it is all found in the pages of Fine is Flying without You. Figliola beautifully captures the subculture and lets you believe anything is possible, for better or worse. “
“Sometimes we leave home and sometimes home leaves us. In his remarkable novel Fine is Flying Without You, Mike Figiola takes us on a mystical journey with a twenty-eight-year old protagonist who longs for his not so distant past but discovers what he really wanted was in front of him all the time. John Laredo passes through strained relationships, the violent loss of a dear friend, and the loving memory of a former romance—only to end up back where he started.”
Fine is Flying Without You has a plainspoken, conversational feel that’s easy to get into. It’s an unvarnished look into the lives of imperfect people who never make the headlines. They just do their best to keep going. Survivors. With every word, Figliola invites you into their world.”
