As I follow Maruq into the unknown, insecurity stalks me. I have been trained to be chief of the people, to hunt, and to lead, but never was I taught to be a woman. The simplest of womanly tasks-- cooking, sewing, caring for a babe-- challenge me. "Women are the softer part of us." It is the only advice that I was ever given. And right now, as I look into my future I feel it is as helpful as mammoth dung. I have spent a lifetime learning to be hard, to guard myself, to show no weakness, how am I to be soft? I learned to be a man, learning to be a woman should be easy. But I fear learning to be myself will be the hardest task of all.
