Like its companion on Mark, this primarily intended for the reader who has no previous knowledge of biblical criticism. Jesus in John's Gospel is portrayed very differently from the other three gospels - union with him brings salvation and eternal life. This is a mystical gospel, relating to life in the present rather than a future kingdom.
